Cybex US Stroller Recall to Repair: Cybex Onyx, Ruby and Topaz Buggies

The US Con­sumer Prod­uct Safety Com­mis­sion (CPSC) have issued a recall to repair in coop­er­a­tion with Regal Lager Inc, dis­trib­u­tor of CYBEX Strollers due to risk of fin­ger­tip ampu­ta­tion and lac­er­a­tion haz­ards. The recall has been issued in North Amer­ica and the fol­low­ing infor­ma­tion has been pro­vided by the dis­trib­u­tors for US and Cana­dian citizens.

The recall includes the fol­low­ing strollers:

• Cybex Ruby
• Cybex Onyx
• Cybex Topaz

The Cybex Ruby, Onyx and Topax bug­gies are avail­able in the UK from Mama and Papa’s depart­ment store and online depart­ment store Very.co.uk. Mamas & Papas signed an exclu­sive deal with Cybex in Jan­u­ary 2009, “as Mamas & Papas believed their Euro­pean coun­ter­parts offered an out­stand­ing range of prod­ucts which deserved to be intro­duced to their UK cus­tomers through Mamas & Papas brand so that par­ents were assured of the same qual­ity and value for money they have come to recog­nise from the UK Superbrand.”

Mind­ful Mum is con­tact­ing Cybex (based in Ger­many), Mama & Papas and the UK Trad­ing Insti­tute to find out if UK strollers are affected and if the recall will also be announced to cus­tomers in the UK / Europe as part of Mama & Papas ongo­ing com­mit­ment to assure UK cus­tomer of their “strict qual­ity and safety controls.”

US & Canada Recall to Repair Details:

• Name of Children’s Product: CYBEX Strollers
• Haz­ard: The stroller’s hinge mech­a­nism poses a fin­ger­tip ampu­ta­tion and lac­er­a­tion haz­ard to the child when the con­sumer is unfolding/opening the stroller.
• Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a child plac­ing his fin­ger in the stroller’s hinge mech­a­nism, result­ing in a fin­ger fracture.
• Descrip­tion: This recall involves Ruby, Onyx and Topaz mod­els of CYBEX umbrella strollers. “CYBEX” is printed on the side of the strollers.
• Sold at: Between August 2009 and Novem­ber 2009 for between £140 and £260
• Man­u­fac­tured in: China
• Rem­edy: Con­sumers should imme­di­ately stop using the recalled strollers and con­tact Regal Lager to receive a free hinge cover retro­fit kit.
