Mindful Mum is on a mission to raise awareness of toxic chemicals in UK baby products. The Mindful Mum website highlights safe alternatives free from BPA, Phthalates and PVC via product reviews, comparison tables and safe baby guides.
My interest in the materials used to manufacture baby products started when I moved from breast feeding to bottle and wanted to be sure my bottles were free from BPA (Bishpenol-A).
In the UK, the Foods Standards Agency insist that BPA in UK plastic products is “well below the levels considered harmful.” Yet, in 2008, Canada formerly declared BPA a hazardous substance and banned the production and use of BPA in bottles. In 2009 six of the USA manufacturers of plastic bottles voluntarily agreed to remove Bisphenol-A from their products amid growing concern over its possible effects. The manufacturers withdrawing BPA from their bottles are doing so only for domestic USA sales only.
