A career as a midwife for 30 years, spent both in the UK and abroad, has enabled Amanda to explore all aspects of fertility, pregnancy and birth. She is passionate about keeping pregnancy and childbirth natural wherever possible. A qualified and experienced therapist in aromatherapy and reflexology, Amanda has helped develop an aromatherapy and massage training programme for hospital based midwifes.
Amanda continues to explore natural choices for childbirth as part of her professional development. A highly skilled and qualified practitioner in hypnotherapy, Hypnobirthing, and emotional freedom technique (EFT), Amanda lectures and presents seminars on complementary therapies and hypnotheraby during pregnancy and childbirth to health professionals, NCT groups and antenatal classes.
Hypnotherapy in pregnancy
Amanda became fascinated by the potential of using hypnotherapy in pregnancy and birth. “A combination of these techniques has given women more choice and autonomy in their desire for a natural labour and birth. I’ve been offering hypnobirthing courses, incorporating my skill and knowledge both as a midwife and hypnotherapist, to provide a holistic approach to pregnancy and birth. I also offer therapy to women suffering from severe morning sickness (hyperemesis). Research has also shown that hypnotherapy may increase the success rate of assisted pregnancy such as IVF.”
