Green Pea and Carrot Dalia

You will need

  • a pressure cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 cup broken wheat (dalia)
  • ½ cup shelled green peas shelled
  • 2 small carrots, diced
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, seeded and chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves

Method

  1. Soak broken wheat in two cups of water for thirty minutes. Drain.
  2. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds. As they begin to change colour, add the onion and sauté till translucent; add the green peas, carrots and tomato and sauté for one minute.
  3. Add the broken wheat and three cups of water; add salt to taste.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, fasten the lid of the pressure cooker and cook till the pressure is released twice (two whistles).
  5. Stir in the butter and coriander leaves and serve at once.
