For a sneak preview of the most popular baby names in 2012 see the list compiled by parenting website BabyCenter using its customer data.

The Social Security Administration will not reveal the top baby names in the USA until summer 2013, however, the parenting site BabyCenter has a sneak preview of the top baby names in the USA using the information supplied by its members. The top baby name list below is based on the names of 450,000 babies, whose mums are registered on their website.

Top 10 girls’ names

1. Sophia
2. Emma
3. Olivia
4. Isabella
5. Ava
6. Lily
7. Zoe
8. Chloe
9. Mia
10. Madison

Top 10 boys’ names

1. Aiden
2. Jackson
3. Ethan
4. Liam
5. Mason
6. Noah
7. Lucas
8. Jacob
9. Jayden
10. Jack

According to BabyCentre, parents are looking for names with a meaning, for example the top names; Aiden means “fiery” and Sophia means “wisdom”.
