Top Scottish baby names 2012

Today, the National Records of Scotland announced that once again Jack and Sophie are the most popular names in 2012!

In Scotland the National Records of Scotland registered 26,400 girls and 27,700 boys in the first 11 months of 2012.

  • Jack is the most popular name in Scotland for fifth year
  • Sophie is ranked number 1 for the eighth year

Other very popular boys names include Lewis and Riley which are most popular in 5 council areas. Isla was number one in 7 council areas and Emily came top in 5 areas.

  • Harris (up 20 places to 29th)
  • Amelia (up 20 places to ninth)
  • Millie (up seven places to 11th)
  • Ella (up eight places to joint 25th)
  • Poppy (up 11 places to 34th)
  • Orla (up 19 places to 36th)
