Your body at 2 weeks

Your body is revving up for ovulation. You know what to do! This is the best time to try for a baby. When you ovulate, the walls of your uterus thicken in readiness and an egg (or two if you are about to conceive fraternal twins) ripens and makes its journey down your fallopian tube preparing to meet a sperm.

How you are feeling at 2 weeks

Trying to get pregnant is of course exciting, but try to relax and have fun. If your excitement gets the better of you each month consider relaxation classes to reduce stress. Remember, it can take over a year for a healthy woman to conceive. If you are trying to conceive and are over 35, it can take longer.

Talk to your partner about the changes a baby will bring. It’s a good time to find out about your maternity policy at work and focus on your finances.

Fertility fact

Signs of ovulation include increased temperature, increased sex drive and mild abdominal pain. The Germans call the latter Mittelschmerz, a ‘middle-pain’ to remind you each month that you are at your most fertile.

Preconception advice

  • Check the medicines you are taking are safe for pregnancy. Avoid herbal supplements and check with your doctor before taking any over the counter medicines.
  • Is it safe to diet when trying to conceive? Dieting whilst trying to get pregnant can improve your chances of conception if done properly. Here is how to diet safely whilst trying to conceive.
  • Get the man in your life to check his preconception health too. Simple changes can improve men’s fertility, so it is worth switching to a healthy lifestyle now.
  • Consider eating organic food especially if you like apples, grapes, peaches, pears, nectarines, strawberries, celery, potatoes and spinach. These foods still contain a lot of pesticide residue even after washing.
