29 weeks pregnant

By now you should be feeling some stronger kicks! Let your partner feel your stomach when you feel kicking.

29 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby at 29 weeks

Your baby’s head is growing rapidly to accommodate the brain, which is busy creating billions of neurons! It’s possible that your baby’s developing eyes can detect light at this stage, and will likely react to different sounds as well. Your baby’s taste buds have developed to the point that he or she can taste what you eat.

Your baby’s bones are hardening and body fat is accumulating. All the major organs are continuing to develop as well.

Your baby is now around 16 inches from head to toe, about the size of a butternut squash, and weighs over 2.5 pounds.

Your body at 29 weeks

You’ll have gained around 15 – 20 pounds in weight by now, which is to be expected, and your uterus is about 3 or 4 inches above your belly button. As your baby grows, the space in your uterus becomes more cramped, which will mean your little one will be doing less acrobatics. However, you’ll likely still feel some movement, which may cause pain or discomfort.

Constipation
and heartburn may still be a problem; you can blame increased levels of progesterone for this! Haemorrhoids may still be plaguing you as well. These will disappear shortly after you give birth but using an ice pack on the affected area can calm any pain or itchiness you may feel. If you want to buy an over-the-counter remedy, speak to your doctor first.

Pregnancy fact

Your baby may have a sense of taste acute enough to like and dislike different flavours at this stage!

How you’re feeling at 29 weeks

If you haven’t already got one, it’s a good idea to create a birth plan. This will ease your mind and help your doctor to know exactly what you want when you give birth. Get your partner to help you work on it too, as this will help him co-ordinate with the hospital staff when you give birth, as well as being a little bonding exercise for the two of you!

Pregnancy advice

  • Your baby’s nutritional needs are growing fast, so try to keep up and eat lots of healthy food containing folic acid, calcium, protein, vitamin C, and iron, as these are all essential to your baby’s development.
  • You can keep up with your light exercises in the third trimester, but don’t push yourself too hard. Try swimming or even just walking, unless your doctor has advised against these.
