30 weeks pregnant

If you’re having trouble sleeping, try lying on your left side with a pillow between your legs.30 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby at 30 weeks

Your baby will gain half a pound in weight each week as layers of fat develop, meaning your baby will shed the fine hair (lanugo) that’s been keeping them warm up until now. Sleep patterns will become more defined at this stage, so fingers crossed they’re in harmony with yours!

You may find that your baby moves around a lot before ending up in the ‘head first’ position, preparing for birth. Your baby’s brain is still growing rapidly, developing grooves. All of your baby’s senses are functioning at this stage, too.

Your baby is now around 16 inches from head to toe and weighs about 3 pounds. As your little one is still curled up, he or she is about the size of a large cabbage. Why not try your hand at taking a bump picture as a memento of your pregnancy? Here are our selection of the top 12 most stunning pregnancy photos.

Your body at 30 weeks

There’s a strong possibility that you’ll have gained a shoe size by now, or will do soon. This is caused by your ligaments loosening due to hormonal changes, but your feet will return to normal after your baby is born.

Constipation and heartburn are still common problems, which are caused by an increased level of progesterone. We promise they’ll pass eventually! You may also be suffering from haemorrhoids; these will disappear shortly after you give birth, but try using an ice pack on the affected area to calm any pain or itchiness you may feel. Speak to your doctor before buying any over-the-counter remedies.

Pregnancy fact

Your baby may respond to touches or taps on your belly by poking you in the same spot!

How you’re feeling at 30 weeks

Chances are you’re wondering if you’ll ever stop being pregnant. 10 weeks may seem like a long time to go, but you’re already 75% of the way there! This could be a good time to think of a name for your baby, and perhaps even consider who the god-parents will be, if you decide that’s what you want. Taking time to think of these will help you relax and enjoy the prospect of becoming a mother, as will looking over your birth plan. Including your partner in all of this will be a good bonding exercise!

Pregnancy advice

  • The bigger you get, the clumsier you’ll feel. This is due to your centre of gravity shifting, so take extra care not to participate in dangerous activities or sports, and be careful when doing everyday things like walking up or down stairs or doing any household chores (hopefully at this stage dad-to-be will doing most of these!).
  • Try to eat lots of healthy food containing folic acid, calcium, protein, vitamin C, and iron, as these are all essential to your baby’s development.
  • Hopefully your little one will stay put for now, but if you were to give birth this week, your baby will have a 95% chance of surviving.
