4 weeks pregnant
With no period this month, things are looking good! It’s time to take a pregnancy test.

Your baby at 4 weeks
The blastocyst (now called an embryo) settles into your uterus and begins to divide into two halves; one half of the cells will form your baby and the other half will create the placenta, which protects, feeds, and nourishes your baby for the duration of your pregnancy.
At this point, the embryo is starting to form the lumps that will become your baby’s arms, legs, fingers and toes, as well as organs and bones.
At four weeks, your baby is no bigger than an apple pip, but already the amniotic sac is forming.
Your body at 4 weeks
You may experience any of the following early pregnancy signs : missed period, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, headaches, feeling bloated, cramping, frequent urination, and breast tenderness. Even if you have some pregnancy symptoms they can often be confused with menstrual symptoms so take a pregnancy test.
You might be fortunate enough to find that you have no symptoms at all, which is perfectly normal.
How you’re feeling at 12 weeks
At this point in your pregnancy, you might experience bursts of different emotions; for example, you might be miserable one minute and euphoric the next. This is because your hormones are in overdrive, which is perfectly normal. So enjoy the highs and don’t fret too much about the lows!
Pregnancy fact
Your sense of smell will heighten. Pregnant women will find that their sense of smell will sharpen and improve throughout their 9 months of pregnancy. Some experts believe that this may be to help the mother distinguish harmful foods from safe foods. Find out more interesting facts about pregnancy.
Pregnancy advice
- Have you told your partner he’s going to be a Dad yet? Here are some great ways to deliver the good news.
- This is a great time to start an exercise routine; exercise will develop your muscle tone, strength and endurance, which of course will be helpful when your baby is ready to enter the world (it’ll be worth it, we promise!)
- Exercising now will help reduce the extra weight you’ve put on during your pregnancy, as well as making it easier for you to get back in shape after your baby is born. Safe, fairly vigorous activities like walking and swimming are recommended, as is yoga. Just remember not to overdo it!
