Five top tips to looking and feeling stylish during pregnancy
Feature writer Louisa gives us her top tips for looking stylish during pregnancy
1. Find yourself an elastic bobble
Some of you may find the only change to your size in the first few months, is around the stomach area. This means is that, was it not for your expanding tummy, your jeans would still fit perfectly. Here is a solution to making things comfier for you and your growing baby. All you need is an elastic bobble.
Loop the bobble around the button of your jeans * Feed the other end through the button hole * Loop the remaining bobble around the button
2. Don’t lose yourself
If you have always been stylish, don’t stop now! Should you decide to opt for maternity wear then there are endless high street brands to choose from such as Topshop, New Look and Next, as well as online companies including as ASOS, who stock a variety of different brands. There is something for everyone, regardless of budget or personal style.
If you choose not to buy maternity clothing, you can still look good wearing leggings, tops in a larger size and elasticated waist bands, all of which will become your best friend. You can you accessorize with jewellery, handbags and shoes to make a fashion statement.
3. Pregnant women are desirable
Pregnant women CAN be desirable and you should still feel attractive when attending a special event or on an evening out. Isabella Oliver make great dresses for those of you who want to display your blossoming figures and show people that a pregnant body can be sexy!
Topshop also has a great range of styles, from summery, chiffon numbers to form fitting dresses like the Aztec print dress above.
4. Get confident
It is not only clothing that can make you feel good; underwear can provide that inner confidence too. Knowing that you have on something cute or sexy, that only you or your partner are aware of, can offer you some extra confidence in times of need. Hot Milk, Elle Macpherson and Next (below) are great brands that have attractive, and oh so sweet lingerie lines that are also practical.
5. No more high maintenance hair
A woman’s hair is part of her identity and when we find a style we like, we tend to stick with it. However if your hair style is high maintenance with endless trips to the hairdressers and requires hours spent straightening, curling or tonging, it may be time for a change. You will most likely have days when even the thought of getting out of bed is exhausting, as well as those when you feel you could run a marathon, and in the early days of motherhood this can continue if your baby does not love sleep as much as you do. I can assure you that on the bad days, if you have clean hair that doesn’t look like it has been dragged through a bush backwards, you will think it looks just fine. Find a style that is quick and easy to maintain, and remember, practical does not have to mean boring! I must point out that going for a drastic change is something you could later regret as hormones have a lot to answer for and something that seems great at the time may not feel so great in a week’s time. Consult with friends who know you best and will stop you making any rash decisions.
