Dingle, dangle scarecrow

This a great toddler song, they love jumping around pretending to be the scarecrow. At the start of the song, have them pretend they are sleeping, when the sun comes up in the song, tell them to spring up and dangle their arms then shake their feet like a scarecrow.

Two little dickey birds

The actions for this song are done by the adult. Hold your two hands out sideways in front of you with your palms facing back towards you (as if reading a book). Your thumbs have become Peter and Paul sitting on the wall. As they fly away, hide your thumbs behind your other fingers.

Another classic, twinkle twinkle is a song not likely to be forgotten as your toddler grows! For the first two lines show your toddler how to do the action for stars (open and closing your hands with your fingers spread wide). Teach your little one how to make a diamond shape for the next two lines and then back to stars for the last two.

Another simple song, have your little one pretend to be the mouse and use their hand to climb up their other arm. At one o’clock, teach your toddler to hold up one finger then have the mouse run back down the arm again. See lyrics for actions relating to each number below in brackets.

Incy wincy spider

A fun song with good actions, let your child pretend to be a spider with their hands. Have them ‘climb’ their hands up and down your leg as a spout.
OR
Join the left index fingertip to right thumb tip and the right index fingertip to the left thumb tip. Keeping one fingertip and tumb tip touching, swing the other pair up to touch each other again. Repeat this “climbing” motion going” up the water spout”. Sprinkle fingers down for the second verse and make a sweeping motion for “washed the spider out”. Make a big sunshine (circle with your arms) for the third verse. Make your climbing fingers for the final verse.

For the five little monkeys song, hold up the number of fingers to match the verse. For bouncing action bounce your fingers (monkeys) up and down on your other hand (the bed). Hold up one finger for ‘one fell off’. Hold both hands and rock head back and forth for ‘and bumped his head’. For no more monkeys bouncing on the bed, shake the index finger for ‘no, no’. For the final ‘straight to bed’ clasp two hands together and place to side of head for sleep.
